Valentine's Day Dinner

Happy Valentine's Day everyone~

Oops.. I'm one month late. Please pardon me.

For this very special day, I decided to cook. Cooking is an extremely difficult task for me as I sucks at it. So I guess if I managed to cook something for Hubby on Vday, I am a wonderful wife. Hahaha..

With the help of a recipe photo-book from Marks & Spencer, helpful aunties/staffs from NTUC, Twinkle (she came to help me to stir-fried one of the dishes) and my beloved Hubby (he accompanied me to the Wet Market at 8am to buy fresh ingredients), I managed to make it through. Phew~

Herbal Black Chicken Soup

This is the easiest to prepare. And soup is everyone's favorite too!

Black Chicken

Handling raw black chicken is really gross.. I'm glad that I only need to use this few parts of the chicken to brew my soup.

Seafood

For the Thai green curry. Super duper yummy!!

Stir-fried Tofu + Bok Choy

Ingredients used.

What a feast right?

So proud of myself..

Heart-shaped rice prepared by Twinkle. So Vday feel. :)

Little Bites Muffins

Little Bites Muffin from Australia

Yeah!! I am sooooo happy.

It has been a long time (since July 2011) that I ate Little Bites Muffin :) This is my ultimate craving whenever I'm in Australia. However, it is always sold out (I think so because I can never find it in the supermarket).

But this time, in Melbourne's Coles, I managed to get my hands on the last box of Little Bites Muffin. Happiness to the max!

To play safe (being kiasu), I bought the Top Taste Yummy Tummy Koalas that was sitting just beside Little Bites Muffin too. Maybe it is just as nice?

Sushi Dai at Tsukiji Market

Ohayou Gozaimasu (Good morning) !

Yawn... it's 4.30am (Singapore time: 3.30am) and we had to prepare for our inaugural journey to Sushi Tei located in Tsukiji Fish Market.

Took the first train out of 台場 Daiba to Shiodome, and changed a train towards 築地 Tsukijishijo. The journey took about 45mins to reach our destination.

310 JPY to travel from Daiba to Tsukiji

When you reach Tsukiji station, follow the signage (A1 exit) to the Tsujiki Market. Walk towards the main gate and head to the shops and restaurants.

We got lost 2 times and thanks to FSS Serbina who can converse with the local in Japanese, we managed to find the place~! :)

Judging from the short queue - 20 paxs before us, we were happy that we arrived early at 8am.  But we were dead wrong! We waited for 2 1/2 hrs in the cold & windy weather. *major faint*

Serbina, Shermaine, Shafi, Me and Gerald (the photographer of this shot)

Super cold because of the ice-chilling wind. Brrr.....

The Menu.

Address: 〒104-0045 東京都中央区築地5-2-1 築地市場内 6号館‎

Opening Hours: 0500hrs to 1400hrs

CASH ONLY

* Omakase Course ("trust the chef" course)
3,900 JPY (SGD  64)

The chef will select the best choices of the day. Additionally, you can choose one extra nigiri item.. whatever you want!

10+1 pieces of nigiri sushi (i.e: fatty tuna, sea eel, sea urchin, shellfish, seasonal fish, sushi rolls, rolled egg, miso soup)

*Jyou (Standard)
2,500 JPY (SGD  41)

7 pieces of nigiri sushi

All 5 of us chose the "trust the chef" menu. :) 11 nigiri sushi to fill our empty stomach..

otoro (fatty tuna) - the best nigiri sushi !

The otoro just melts in the mouth. Creamy & Heavenly!

Suzuki (sea bass)

Tai (red snapper)

Snapper, raw? Eww.. must be fishy.. surprising, it is a good stuff too!

Uni (sea urchin).

My first time trying Uni. It's sweet, creamy and very fresh. 2nd favorite!

Tuna with some glaze on it. that's why it looks shiny :)

After the tuna, we were serve akagai (clam).. the clam curled in front of us. Looked amazing, but has a strong fishy smell. Urgh.

Shiraebi (baby shrimp)

The pace for savoring the sushi starts to slow down..

Aji (mackerel)

Piping hot tamago (roll egg)

this braided fish was to replace anago (eel) which I don't take because of the small bones.

If given a chance to dine at Sushi Dai again.. I will ... BUT only if I don't have to queue that long.

After our fulfilling meal, we went to buy some stuffs from the shops around the restaurant.

One of the Japanese stewardess told me that January is the season to buy strawberries. I bought a box of 40 strawberries 1,800 JPY (SGD30) and brought it back to Singapore for Chinese New Year. Shared with Charles' family. Charles' Mom said that it is the BEST strawberries that she ever tasted.

It's really sweet and juicy. However, to bring the easily-bruised strawberries back to Singapore was really a hassle. And hearing such comments really make it all worthwhile. :) Then again, I won't be doing it again.. Hahaha.. too cumbersome. Unless for personal consumption. Hahaha..

blocks of tamago. along the market of Tsukiji.

The famous Tamago shop that  食尚玩家 host Sasa had recommended in the show.

Colorful love letter.

8 pieces at 700 JPY. Does pretty things have to be that expensive? Faint.

Grand Central Oyster Bar & Resturant

On my way up to New York, CS Daryl who is also a foodie, asked if we would like to join him for oyster feast at Grand Central Terminal.

OYSTERS? Many different types?? Yes yes!!! Please count me in.

1 hour after checking in, the 4 of us met at the lobby and walked for about 8 mins to reach our destination :)

Menu for December 13.

Under the Raw Bar, you can choose from a selection of at least 25 types of oysters. Hamu Hamu and Mayflower are my favorite.

4 different types of oyster on this plate. Are you able to tell which is which?

Clam Chowder and the raw oyster are the best there.. We had tired the other soups and main courses (fish and lobsters) but nothing fantastic.

For 4 guests: 32 pieces of oyster, 2 soups, 3 mains, 1 bottle of wine - the bill total to be USD270. On top of that we had to give a 20% tip.

So I guess, next time ... just whack the raw oysters, clam chowder and a bottle of white wine will do. You will be full & satisfied! :)

Annual Christmas Exchange

It's the time of the year again! ❤ ❤ ❤

Christmas Exchange with the girls. Woohoo!

Our budget of $50 still remains the same. And to buy a present around $50 budget ain't an easy task..

Venue chosen was at Carousel at Royal Plaza Hotel Singapore, renowned for its sumptuous Asian and Mediterranean buffets.

Glady was the first to arrive. She said she was super duper hungry and had to eat first.

As for me.. I touch down in the morning 8am from a delayed flight. When evening came, I wanted to continue sleeping and skipped the meeting :P But then again, it's a once-a-year kind of thing.. So I HAVE to wake my lazy bum from my comfy seductive bed.

Please pardon my hair and makeup for the night as I overslept and didn't have time to really blow my hair nicely.

Dress: Love Bonito
Shoes: Love Bonito
Earrings: Seoul

Melissa & Ann arrived from work roughly few mins apart, and they were so happy to dig in right away.

Very soon, creamy oysters, drunken prawns and sashimi filled our tables. :) Yummy!!

After a hour or so feasting.. we were full to the brim and were so ready & excited to open our presents. ❤

First, Kimmie's presents to the girls:

Ann with Kimmie's present.

Melissa's present from Kimmie.

Mel's blouse is from Love Bonito too! ❤

My hint to Mel and Ann is that it is something which you will be able to use when u need to go overseas. Mel managed to guess it correctly *clap clap*

Glady's presents from Kimmie.

My hint to Glady: something that you can apply.

Sexy black Kate Spade passport cover for classy Mel.

Benefits' Mr Bright makeup set for Glady. :)

And now it's turn to open Glady's presents for us:

This small present is from Glady.

Hmm.. box is a cube. Tough to guess..

Mel's present for Me :)

OSIM portable massager!

Glady LOVES body massage.. and she seems to do one almost after every flight. So this is a great gift for her.

Straightener and curler for Ann.. As Ann often meet us with her messy hair. HAHAHA..

And mine is a sexy RED portable Panasonic electric toothbrush. Great for using on board. Pity I do not have a picture of it. Cus they were busy with their presents that no one took one for me :( hahaha..

The finale.. Ann's presents for us.

Ann really can surprise me.. She's the "bo xin" (no heart in Hokkien a.k.a the heartless) one in our group. Boys always come first before friends.

However, this time her choices of presents impressed me. Good one Ann!

Hint from Ann: Things u will use or put on.

Ann's present for Glady.

Single size bed sheet.

Just in time as Glady will soon be having a room of her own as her brother just bought a Condo.

Hmm... something that you can put on.. Apparel? From Takashimaya (judging from the wrapper).. Clothes from Takashimaya is quite mature le..

Woohoo.. A pencil skirt from Zara. And it's really tight n sexy! Nice one!!

Makes me wanna get one for myself.

Last but not least.. Kimmie..

The biggest present of the night.

And it's a Fruit Juice Blender! :)

Yeah!! I love it to bits! Just what I needed to blend healthy juice for Hubby and myself ;)
